Policy on the Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence

The Revista de Direito da Saúde Comparado (Comparative Health Law Journal), of Universidade Santo Amaro (UNISA), adopts guidelines for the use of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools based on recommendations from the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME) and the International Association of Scientific, Technical & Medical Publishers (STM), widely recognized in international scholarly publishing.

1. Guidelines for authors:

  • Authors must clearly and transparently disclose any use of generative AI tools in the preparation of the manuscript;
  • The use of AI is permitted only for auxiliary purposes (grammar correction, language improvement, translation, and formatting);
  • The use of AI for data analysis or for generating textual or visual content must be explicitly disclosed;
  • Authors are fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of the content, including ensuring the absence of plagiarism;
  • AI tools cannot be listed as authors;
  • AI tools must not be cited as scientific sources.

2. Guidelines for reviewers:

  • Reviewers must not use generative AI tools to prepare peer review reports;
  • Manuscripts must not be uploaded to AI platforms due to risks related to confidentiality, privacy, and copyright;
  • Any suspicion of undisclosed AI use should be reported in the review.

3. Guidelines for editors:

  • The use of automated tools for text correction and formatting is permitted;
  • The use of automated systems must be declared and previously validated;
  • All AI tools must be used under human supervision;
  • This includes tools for plagiarism detection, AI detection, and image manipulation analysis.
