Analysis of knowledge and control practices of Aedes Aegypti in the population of the southern zone of São Paulo

Objective: This study aims to identify gaps in awareness and intervention strategies against dengue, as well as measure the population's knowledge level regarding prevention and control strategies for the disease. Material and Method:This is a cross-sectional observational study involving the administration of a questionnaire among users of the public healthcare system in the southern zone of São Paulo. The sample consisted of users from a polyclinic and a teaching hospital, aged 18 years or older, who consented to participate in the study. The questionnaire, based on and adapted from previous research instruments on dengue, addressed questions regarding knowledge and attitudes toward the disease, as well as demographic characteristics such as gender, age, and educational level. Results: The study revealed that the majority of respondents are knowledgeable about dengue transmission (98.51%), breeding sites (96.53%), and prevention methods (94.05%), such as eliminating standing water and using repellents. Additionally, 97.52% understand the restrictions on using medications to treat the disease. The data highlight the importance of awareness campaigns in strengthening prevention efforts and reducing dengue incidence. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that most respondents have knowledge about dengue transmission and prevention strategies, emphasizing the importance of awareness and public engagement in controlling *Aedes aegypti*. Strategies such as eliminating breeding sites and adopting individual protection measures are essential to reducing vector proliferation. Moreover, health education and community campaigns play a crucial role in disease prevention, reinforcing the need for continuous and integrated actions to minimize the impact of dengue on public health.
