Abstract
Introduction: Throughout history, the use of psychoactive drugs has always been present for different purposes, varying with society, culture and time in question, becoming a public health problem. Comparing the general population with university students, we can see that these are the ones who use licit and illicit drugs the most for various reasons, even though they are in an environment considered to be informed. Objective: To verify the use of licit and illicit drugs and the reasons for their use in the university environment of the universities of São Paulo. Methodology: This is an observational, analytical, cross-sectional, comparative and contemporary study. University students from the State of São Paulo will be included, through convenience sampling. A data collection instrument will be used, via Google Forms with an informed consent form, prepared by the authors of the project, dealing with the relationship between drug use and university students. There was a prevalence of young females (67%) with a history of pre-university drug addiction and with encouragement from this medium to maintain or increase drug addiction mainly for recreational reasons. However, there are protective factors such as work and living with family members.
