Nutritional care for children with cerebral palsy: a systematic review

OBJETIVO: Revisar as recomendações sobre o atendimento nutricional a criança com Paralisia Cerebral (PC) e elencar os impactos desta patologia.

MÉTODOS: Buscar e analisar de modo sistemático, nas bases de dados PubMed, LILACS, BVS, SCIELO, publicações que relatam o atendimento nutricional de crianças com Paralisia Cerebral desde a avaliação antropométrica, a classificação do estado nutricional e a escolha da via de alimentação. O método de inclusão dos artigos foi esquematizado em identificação, seleção, inclusão e elegibilidade.

RESULTADOS: Foram selecionados 12 artigos que apresentaram as divergências na avaliação antropométrica; outros tratavam das curvas de classificação do estado nutricional, destacando a ocorrência de desnutrição e, por fim, houve artigos sobre as principais vias de alimentação das crianças com PC e as principais dificuldades associadas.

CONCLUSÃO: Mais estudos com amostras homogêneas e com qualidade metodológica se fazem necessários para esclarecer com alto nível de evidência as possíveis relações entre a alimentação e o comprometimento motor, o estado nutricional, a via alimentar, os riscos e dificuldades alimentares.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: Review the recommendations on nutritional care for children with Cerebral Palsy (CP) and list the impacts of this pathology.

METHODS: Systematically search and analyse, in the PubMed, LILACS, BVS, Scielo databases, publications that report the nutritional care of children with Cerebral Palsy from the anthropometric assessment, the classification of the nutritional status and the choice of feeding route. The method of inclusion of articles was schematized in its identification, selection, inclusion, and eligibility.

RESULTS: Twelve articles were selected that presented divergences in the anthropometric assessment; others dealt with the nutritional status classification curves, highlighting the occurrence of malnutrition and, finally, there were articles on the main feeding routes of children with CP and the main associated difficulties.

CONCLUSION: More studies with homogeneous samples and with methodological quality are needed to clarify with a high level of evidence the possible relationships between diet and motor impairment, nutritional status and diet, and risks and eating difficulties.
